Photo Opps in Canadian Lakes Michigan

A good friend invited my husband and I to his cabin in Canadian Lakes, Michigan. He’s great at spotting ‘targets’ as he calls them so I was excited to go and see what I could ‘capture’.

Michigan in August was a great break from the heat we experience in Texas and the animals were enjoying the cool temps too because there was no shortage of them walking through his front yard! It took me a bit to get my settings right and to not be so jumpy with my Sigma 150-600 lens (the excitement of seeing deer so close and all.)

This is my favorite of the captures, mostly because it was the first clear shot I got without using a tripod.

We also drove a bit looking for an Osprey nest and as we got out of the car a few hundred yards away we could make out the bird sitting in the nest. As you can imagine, walking towards the nest we spooked him a bit and he flew off. My disappointment was short lived because my friend spotted the Osprey in another tree not far away, as well as his mate a few trees over. Again, trying to steady my Sigma lens as best I could I was happy to get this shot.

Continuing our drive through what he told us was Amish country, I was in awe of all the photogenic horses just grazing near the side of the road (fenced off of course). We pulled over to get a closer look and I captured this beautiful shot.

We must have disturbed their lunch because one at a time they turned around and headed off towards the back of the farm. I’ve learned to make the best of these situations and have a collection called Butt I Didn’t Get Your Eye and figured this shot would be great for that.

The next day was a beautiful sunny day and we went for a pontoon ride on the lake. Lots of bird life living there and the challenge was to judge the motion of the boat with the motion of the birds. The gulls were plentiful and very photogenic.

Makes sense Candian Geese would be swimming by for a Photo Opp on Canadian Lakes Michigan. This one was the ‘keeper’.

Finally, we saw a Blue Heron on a log that must have been part fashion model. He just kept posing for us, looking left and right, moving his wings yet not wanting to fly away.

Loved this trip, never knew these places existed nor did I think I’d have so many Photo Opps in Canadian Lakes Michigan!
